PAEA Assessment Showcase: 5 Key Takeaways
PAEA hosted the Assessment Showcase Webinar Series, taking a close look at the PAEA Suite of Exams. The series consisted of three webinars: Curricular Mapping and the PAEA End of Curriculum™ Exam; Student and Remediation and Retention Using PACKRAT® as a Self-Assessment Tool; and Criterion-Referenced Testing and PAEA’s End of Rotation™ Exams: A Focus on Scoring. Attendees learned about each of the tools, and program members shared how they have used them as part of their overall program assessment strategy.

- PAEA exams are designed to complement other tools that assess core medical knowledge, as well as interpersonal skills, clinical and technical skills, professional behavior, clinical reasoning, and problem-solving.
- Curricular mapping should be done to demonstrate where specific areas of student learning occur and are assessed.
- It is important to triangulate your data. Triangulation of data is the collection and analyzation of data from multiple assessment tools. The method provides educators with a well-rounded view of the students.
- PACKRAT® is one way to measure student self-assessment and assist in the development of individualized remediation plans.
- Scale scores are raw scores that have been “scaled,” meaning they have been converted to a common reporting metric to help programs make valid and fair decisions regarding student performance.
