Position Concept:
The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Program Director in the overall planning, development, and evaluation of program clinical curriculum. The Clinical Coordinator assists the Program Director in the accreditation self-study evaluation process, planning, development and general effectiveness of the program.
As a faculty member, your primary role is to provide academic instruction in an engaging learning environment, incorporating innovative teaching methodologies in order to enhance the learning experience of our students and achieve learning outcomes.
Position type: Full-time (12 month), non-tenure. This position is based at our Virginia Beach, VA campus location.
Responsibilities:
Clinical Coordinator and Teaching:
- ·Provide student instruction and performance evaluation using evidence-based teaching methods and non-punitive feedback.
- Provide academic council and remediation to students as needed.
- Knowledgeable in course content and effective in teaching assigned subjects.
- Participate in developing, reviewing and revising as necessary the mission statement, goals and competencies of the program.
- Collaborate with the Program Director and other faculty members to oversee the design, implementation, coordination and evaluation of the clinical curriculum in accordance with the accreditation standards.
- Serve as a course instructor in appropriate areas.
- In conjunction with the Program Director, coordinate the scheduling of all faculty in order to optimize delivery of instructional content in various topics to students.
- Review and provide feedback to faculty for all didactic courses including course syllabi, instructional materials, and instructional methods.
- Participate in recruitment, selection, and admission of applicants to the program.
- Participate in the Curriculum Review Committee to provide continuous assessment of the overall program and make changes as necessary to ensure continued compliance with ARC-PA accreditation Standards.
- Participate in program, University committees, and attend related functions.
- Maintain clinical competency and knowledge of current best practices within the profession.
- Partner with the Academic Coordinator in order to optimize a seamless transition from the didactic phase into the clinical phase of the program.
- Provide term-by-term on-going analysis of outcome assessment for clinical courses to the Program Director.
- Provide student instruction and performance evaluation using evidence-based teaching methods.
- Provide remediation to students as needed.
- Maintain appropriate office hours.
- Complete continuing medical education required by state licensing board and national certification commission.
- Attend and participate in AAPA and PAEA national meetings, and other continuing education conferences/workshops.
- Participate in state and local PA associations. Advocacy and leadership are encouraged.
- Maintain clinical skills through practice and/or scholarly activities.
Job Skill Requisites:
- The Clinical Coordinator is:
- a) physicians who are specialty board certified in their area of instruction,
- b) NCCPA certified PAs, or
- c) other licensed health care providers qualified in their area of instruction.
- Currently licensed allopathic or osteopathic physician.
- Certified by an ABMS- or AOA-approved specialty board.
- Knowledgeable in the education of Physician Assistant Providers, including professional, legislative and regulatory issues regarding Physician Assistants.
- Qualified through academic preparation and/or experience to teach assigned subjects
- Faculty actively serving as supervised clinical practice experience preceptors must hold a valid license to practice at the clinical site
- Minimum of two years occupational experience.
